EVERYTHING IS ILLUSION

Johanna Keimeyer's graduation work was the video projection and performance in honor of the United Nations’ World Water Day 2012 at the Stadtbad Oderberger, a historic former swimming pool in Berlin. The piece was an extension of her POOL AROUND ME series.

In the video installation and performance, Keimeyer plays with illusion and projection to fill the historic space with water. The performance shows Keimeyer jumping into the water-filled room while more and more swimmers appear in the screen until the whole video projection slowly transforms totally into black. Violins and sound accompany this transformation.

The piece, highly formative of Keimeyer’s future works, features Keimeyer questioning her audience about existence, truth and illusion.
