As part of her studies at the Tama Art University in Tokyo, Japan, Johanna Keimeyer created a series of 5 wall clocks. A design featuring a cat and frog inspired by characters of the Japanese Manga culture.
“Catchyotime 1-2” and “Time Flies 1-3”
“With my wall clocks I want to express that time is endless. The contradiction of time is that you can overcome it if you experience its eternity. Eternity lies in the moment, in the now and here.
The cat, observing the 2 mice running around - is endless.
The frog, with its tongue always trying to catch the fly - is endless.”
14 pairs of identical pieces are made of water-cut aluminum and connected in 2 strands which become narrow as they grow taller. The aluminum pieces are adjustable and expand and collapse through the use of a motor, making “Lift it up” suitable as either a floor lamp or a smaller lamp. As the height changes, so do the shadows as patterns of light are cast on its surroundings. To create a wireless appearance, the aluminum elements carry the electricity (one strand leads plus and the other minus) to the top of the frame, where small cables touch and cause the halogen lamps to shine. The plastic connectors both connect and insulate the strands.
“Lift it up” is the little automatic lamp for the home - ready to adjust to the desired height.
Raphael Guillou and Johanna Keimeyer were part of the organisation and concept team of the exhibition and event Lili #7 in November 2009. The female designer’s award Lili #7 savors final exam works of female students in the department of design and fine arts in the sectors architecture, visual communication, experimental media design, society- and economy communication, product- and fashion design as well as fine arts. There is also an exceptional prize for experimental research.
The organisation team and the jury of the Lili award are all female representatives of the participating departments of university. The awarded works were shown to the public in the main builiding of the UdK in November 2009.
