Leave your body like a Shell
Berlin Artist Johanna Keimeyer explores identity and transformation through underwater film and elemental photography
Berlin-based artist Johanna Keimeyer presents her underwater film, LEAVE YOUR BODY LIKE A SHELL, and the photography series: “Bare Elements - Ice & Fire” at RK Gallery for Contemporary Art. The exhibition opens on October 17, 2025.
Keimeyer's work explores themes of identity, transformation, and the body as a vessel. In her performative underwater film, the artist moves between confinement and expansiveness, using the medium of water to create a dialogue between the physical self and the boundless spirit. The accompanying photographic series captures raw, performative acts within the elements, questioning what remains hidden beneath the surface of perception.
Artist Statement
"My work investigates the body as a shell that never fully expresses our inner world. In the water, bound by breath and gravity, I find a space to explore true freedom of thought and spirit. I explore the raw, unadorned human state within pure nature. The question 'Who am I really?' is at the core of both series." – Johanna Keimeyer
